Passengers traveling through Lehigh Valley International Airport will begin using the new TSA checkpoint and terminal connector Wednesday morning.

Airport officials unveiled the new $35 million infrastructure investment in July with U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Rep. Susan Wild, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and other leaders and organizations from across the Lehigh Valley.

The new connector sits between the main terminal at the airport in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, and the Wilfred M. “Wiley” Post Jr. Concourse.

In July, 91,272 passengers traveled through the airport, marking a 6.2% decrease compared to July 2022. August traffic is also down year over year, but scheduled seats in September are up 8% compared to a year ago, authority Executive Director Thomas Stoudt said during Tuesday’s authority board of governors meeting.

Cargo traffic continues to soar, with July’s tonnage setting a record for the month — up 17% over July 2022, Stoudt said.
